FeCrAl alloy is one of the most widely used electric heating alloys, featuring with high resistivity, heat fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, stable shape at high temperature, etc. Higher resistivity can help to save material and reduce space occupied by the component. The alloy has high surface load to have rapid temperature rise speed. With good oxidation resistance, the dense oxide film is formed. The performances of sulfur resistance and carburizing resistance are good. And it has poor processing performance, so it tends to become brittle for the growth of crystal grain after being used for a long time at high temperature. But, due to the low cost and the easy access of raw materials, it accounts for the vast majority of electric heating materials.
Now, FeCrAl alloy is mainly used as heating elements in various resistance furnaces and heating furnaces. But it should not be used in environment containing nitrogen and chlorine. It can also be used as rheostat, precision resistor and strain resistor.
OHMALLOY has also developed new type of FeCrAl alloys by adding rare earth element and properly reducing carbon, sulfur, phosphorus and other harmful elements. It also adopts foil made by special remelting process. They can be used as honeycomb carrier material for exhaust gas purifier in automobile, motorcycle and other fuel engines, characterized by strong thermal shock resistance, small exhaust resistance, high strength, etc.
