Thermal expansion alloy is widely used in electronic industry, precision measuring tool, precision instrument, cryogenic engineering and other fields. General metal and alloy will expand when they are heated, and the expansion amount increases linearly with the rise of temperature. But the thermal expansion cures of some alloys may occur bending point at certain temperature. And the thermal expansion coefficient below the bending point is much lower than the normal expansion coefficient upon the bending point, which is called abnormal thermal expansion characteristic. The thermal expansion alloy is classified into low expansion alloy and controlled expansion alloy, and the latter is also called sealing alloy.
Other than specific thermal expansion coefficient, thermal expansion alloy also is required to have good sealing property, solderability, corrosion resistance, machinability and free-cutting machinability according to different applications. And the phase change that may cause obvious change in expansion characteristic is not permitted within the operating temperature range. During the manufacturing process of the thermal expansion alloy, the chemical composition of the alloy must be controlled accurately. The products generally include bar, sheet, strip, wire and rod alloy.
